WESTPORT: UNDERSTATED LUXURY ON THE GOLD COAST
A sophisticated and cosmopolitan town, with a population of 28,042 (2017), Westport still maintains the small-town ambiance that has been attracting history’s most noteworthy writers, artists and celebrities since the 1920’s. High profile residents who have enjoyed the ability to fly “under the radar” in Westport, have included Paul Newman, Bette Davis, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Marilyn Monroe. Stemming from this impressive artistic history, the town continues to celebrate a diversity of cultural pursuits including The Levitt Pavilion for Performing Arts, MoCA for the Arts, The Westport Country Playhouse and the newly redesigned Westport Public Library. Books fairs, art festivals, concerts, theatrical events and the annual Jazz, Blues & BBQ festival set the tone for a town that is proud to embrace art and music.
Situated along 5.5 miles of the scenic Long Island Sound, the recreational opportunities in Westport are unparalleled. Westport’s Recreation Commission oversees 210 acres of public space, including 3 town beaches, boating, softball, golf, tennis, biking, jogging and strolling in the numerous town parks. Compo Beach is the “gem of Westport” offering residents access to an expansive playground, picnic areas and BBQ facilities. Boaters enjoy the ease of access to several local docks – including many that are situated outside some of the town’s favorite watering holes and are available for “sail up” parking while you enjoy a night on land. Longshore Country Club is town owned and exclusive for a nominal yearly fee to Westport residents, offering a breathtaking 18-hole golf course, 3 swimming pools, tennis paddle ball, sailing, ice skating and more – all with captivating views of the Sound!
The picturesque downtown Main Street has a handful of cafes, luxury boutiques such as Vince, Serena & Lily, Anthropologie and Intermix. Notable downtown restaurants include Jesup Hall, featuring artisan locally-sourced cuisine and The Spotted Horse, a jammin’ little hideaway where locals gather for great food and drink.
